ECON 3100 Case Study: Assignment 2 As Amazon decides where and when to locate a second headquarters, it continues to hire more employees in the Seattle area. The increase in housing prices in Seattle has made it more difficult to recruit new hires. You’ve been tasked with helping Amazon determine the cost of housing for individual and families in both apartments and single family homes. Your case study will eventually describe in detail what new hires can expect to pay for various types of homes. NOTE: (1) The assignments related to the case study will become part of a larger report. You will save yourself time if your writing is consistent with a report as opposed to a HW assignment. (2) Because some people did not have clean and well formatted tables and graphs last time, this week’s assignment will be a partial redo. We’ll be expanding the data we are looking at, but again making tables. If your score is higher on this assignment than the first, I’ll add half the difference back to the first assignment (example: if your first two assignments are an 8 and a 9, I’ll replace the first assignment grade with an 8.5). Use the dataset on CANVAS “Housing Data 2015 Full Feb 8”. Part 1 Become familiar with the full dataset. This is our final dataset, so it may be useful to rename variables you plan to use and to become more familiar with the data dictionary. Part 2 Make a table/tables of descriptive statistics for our full dataset. Include only the most useful statistics for the most useful variables. You’ll need to figure out how to describe both continuous and categorical variables. Make your tables readable, concise, and professional. Bring a hard copy to class on Thursday February 8th.
