Case Study Assignment You and a partner are going to create a Primary or Secondary School-Aged person. This person must be living with an assessed/diagnosedExceptionality which may or may not be covered in our text. It cannot be the same one you presented to the class about. You and your partner will introduce this person, the exceptionality, and all the factors/dynamics you think are needed for understanding. The main focus of this Case Study should be about Learning Issues and Needs. But Learning Issues and Needs do not to merely happen in a vacuum. Include the perspectives family/parents, professional services, and school setting in your discussion (see family systems theories (Class 3)).   Included in your minimum 8-pagedouble spaced paper will be a description of the person using respectful person-first language, information about the exceptionality (using research journal articlesas your main source), additional exceptionalities the person has including strengths and resources and contextual dynamics.   Your job is to introduce this person giving a snap shot of his/her life, his/her hopes and dreams, possible handicaps/obstaclespotentially hindering that person’s success, and your recommendations for how you would intervene. Search for resources you would offer this person as well as recommendations you would make for school. Consider what you would include in an IEP and, if you want to get creative, you can provide a brief section of an IEP and/or Psych-Ed Assessment. Examples of IEPs can be found on Courselink.   Be sure to use proper APA citation for your supporting evidence from journal articles. Give attention to grammar, syntax, and paragraphs. Worth 20% of your grade. Please feel free to use headings if you think that will help structure the case study.   The write-up for the case study is to be completed by each individual and must different from each other in terms of the writing, formatting, structure, etc. You each have a unique writing style. You may work with your partner on the creative process of developing the fictitious individual. Otherwise, the write-up is your own.   Structure for Case Study: Introduction – 15% (3 marks)
  • Introduce the person with an exceptionality and the purpose of the case study – to provide information about their exceptionality (i.e., characteristics, strengths, needs, comorbidity with other exceptionalities), assessments, interventions, and transition plans (things to focus on as the person grows and develops).
Body – 50% (10 marks)
  • Systematically discuss the points suggested in the introduction (i.e., characteristics, strengths, needs, comorbidities, assessments, interventions, transition plans)with supporting evidence.
  • Any discussion of characteristics requires supporting evidence from empirical sources.
    • Do these characteristics overlap with other exceptionalities? Be mindful of overlapping characteristics as you critically think about the materials you read.
  • Discuss assessments – be critical of these assessments. Are they applicable to all students of all ages? Why or why not? What are the strengths of the assessments?
  • Discuss interventions for your fictitious person. What will assist them to be successful? Be critical and acknowledge that interventions require careful consideration of the IEP – which is unique to each individual.
  • Discuss transition plans (as would appear in an IEP) for your fictitious person – how can we best help them to succeed? Academics? Social Skills? Adaptive Functioning?
  • Remember to include multiple perspectives in your discussion – the student (if appropriate), the family and parents, professional services/community, and school setting (see family systems theories (Class 3)).
  • And remember, provide supporting evidence for your discussion and engage in critical thinking of the materials you read.
Conclusion/Summary – 20% (4 marks)
  • Neatly summarize all of the content discussed above. This is a synthesis of your discussion in the body of your text.
  • Integrate the important points discussed in the body into a summary of two paragraphs.
